The High Weald - Exploring the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Published in 1994 by the Countryside Commission. The documents identifies nine areas within the AONB that have a visual cohesiveness and sense of place. The document has ben superceded by the High Weald AONB Management Plan which focused on the components of natural beauty that have made the area a distinct and homogenous area for at least the last 700 years and that will continue to define it in future.
This document begins with an account of the history of the designation of the High Weald AONB, written by Ray Woolmore. It is followed by a collection of documents, including consultation and correspondence, from the period leading up the area's designation in 1983. The end of this document contains a series of maps that accompany the designation history and illustrate various representations of the High Weald AONB boundary considered prior to designation. The maps are referenced throughout Ray Woolmore's historical account.
