Material Obsessions: British Folk Art in Tunbridge Wells
Tuesday 27 January 2015
Location: Tunbridge Wells Museum & Art Gallery, Mount Pleasant, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN1 1JN
The exhibition celebrates the return to the Museum of part of its folk art collection from Tate Britain's summer show 'Folk Art: The House that Jack Built'.
The new exhibition will also showcase other extraordinary but often unsung art from our diverse collection of 'folk art'. What can you expect? Some highlights include: collages by the eccentric artist George Smart the Tailor of Frant, and a stunningly complex Crimean War quilt made by convalescing soldiers from thousands of pieces of their uniform fabric. Along with the exhibition comes a series of exciting events, including 'Craft-ins', day long art workshops, an academic talk and a special Behind the Scenes curator-led tour. For more information on any of the events, check the Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery website.
