High Beeches: Heavy Horses and Harrowing
Sunday 11 August 2019
Time: 11:00am - 05:00pm
Location: High Beeches Woodland and Water Gardens Handcross, West Sussex RH17 6HQ
Come and see the Heavy Horses harrowing the wildflower meadow at High Beeches woodland and water gardens.
Harrowing , after the grass is cut, is an important part of the management of a wildflower meadow as it removes the thatch and opens up the sward so that the seed can germinate. This work is better done by horses as they don’t compact the ground like a tractor. Enjoy a walk in a beautiful woodland garden where the blue willow gentians will be in flower, this is the only place in the country where they have naturalised. Plants from Rapkyns Nursery and crafts for sale.
