Church Covert is situated in a unique position between the ancient Parish Church of St Mary's and the picturesque ruins of Slaugham Place, home to the Covert family for 240 years. Local people chose Church Covert as a particularly apt name for the wood. The area is rural with improved grassland to the west, a marshy meadow giving way to scrub and a shawlike woodland (with good woodland flora) to the east and a riverside woodland and large mill pond to the south.
