In this section we feature areas in the High Weald which we think offer great opportunities for exploring the many aspects of the High Weald that make is to special.

In these areas there is a wealth of wildlife,  historic villages and a great path network which makes it easier to get off the beaten track into the area's medieval landscape.

These areas are suitable for day visits but are also good bases for a short break within the area.


Ashdown Forest

Ashdown Forest is an area of open heathland and woodland on the highest sandy ridge-top of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB ). Over 10 square miles of the area has open access - allowing everyone to appreciate its beauty.

Seasonal interest

The High Weald can be enjoyed at all times of year - each season adds its own special character.

In early Spring the orchards are awash with pink and white blossom, sheep with newborn lambs graze the area's pasture and heathlands are perfumed with the coconut scent of yellow gorse flowers.
