  • Minister announces renewed AONB commitment
    weblandscape_img_0451Richard Benyon, Minister for Natural Environment and Fisheries, confirmed government backing for England's 34 AONBs on 4 April. Speaking from Berry Head Nature Reserve in South Devon he announced that strategic oversight and funding for AONBs had been transferred to Defra marking a new era for AONBs as highly valued members of the UK protected landscape family.  Read more..
  • Volunteers welcome Routeways Survey Pack

    A Routeways Survey Pack developed by the Unit in partnership with the University of East Anglia and volunteers from Rolvenden parish has now been pubished. It has already been welcomed by communities in Lamberhurst, Danehill and Horsted Keynes who, following Unit training days,  are now using it to find out more about the area's distinctive routeways.   • Visitor accommodation videos a huge success

    Seven businesses from across the AONB have recently benefited from a pilot project that has helped them produce low cost videos of their accommodation and neaby locally distinctive features. As a result of a workshop, and support from the Unit's Cultural Adviser, they now have  promotional videos on You Tube.  Read more..

  • High Weald themed school art workshops
    charcoal_frontcoverThe Fabulous Felt Illusion, the Great  Charcoal Experiment; the Clay Campaign and the Water Colour  Explorers Guide are four new art workshops that draw on the High Weald's landscape and natural materials for inspiration.  They are being offered to primary schools across the area as part of the package of activites offered by the High Weald Heroes programme.
