The Common Knapweed, Centaurea nigra, has often been used to determine true love. From the familiar game of removing petals one by one to a chant of ‘he loves me, he loves me not...’ to a more involved procedure of a maiden placing a cut flower head in her bosom. If the flower head should bloom again when withdrawn, then true love is said to follow!
