Peter Browne - Sustainable building

Peter Browne moved into his 300 year old property near Ardingly, West Sussex, some 32 years ago and since then has set about improving it to an environmentally friendly house.

In addition to increasing the insulation and fitting double glazing, Peter has added a wind turbine and photovoltaic modules which supply a bank of batteries to supplement his power requirements and is planning to extend the area of panels so that he can sell back electricity to the national grid.

A vacuum tube solar module on the roof of the house provide most of his hot water and he has designed his own heating system for a greenhouse, which helps his vegetable garden produce the entire household needs for a year.

Peter has always been interested in self sufficiently and is continually seeking ways to live greener. He makes full use of his acres of woodland to fuel a wood burner and open fire and the house is fitted with energy saving light bulbs throughout.

If you would like some advice from Peter on how to convert your domestic property to provide greener energy solutions, you can contact e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
