Chris has managed part of his land for wildlife for a number of years now and is starting to reap the rewards of increased biodiversity on his land.He manages his meadow traditionally by having a yearly cutting regime followed by removing the cuttings to deplete the fertility of the soil and thereby giving native flowers a chance to grow with less competition from rank grasses and invasive vegetation.
He leaves an area to go fairly wild and cuts his hedge on a three year cycle, to create a range of habitats to attract a variety of wildlife in a relatively small area.
Since adopting this management approach, Chris has seen a greater number and variety of plants, invertebrates and birds on his land and has not looked back to a more intensive approach.
