Earlier this month, AONB Director Jason Lavender met with Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden (pictured right) – along with Wealden District Councillors Jeannette Towey and Phil Dixon – to discuss important issues facing the High Weald.
The picturesque Upper Rother Valley close to Mayfield was the ideal location for the meeting, with a guided walk highlighting the many special features of our outstanding landscape.
Topics of discussion included the history – and current management – of the High Weald landscape, the pressures of major housing development and the challenges faced by our hard-working farmers.
Jason Lavender said: “I’d like to thank Ms Ghani for finding time in her busy schedule to discuss the evolution of the historic and much-loved High Weald landscape.
"In particular, it was a pleasure to talk in detail about the generations of hard working farmers – and their livestock – who have created this breath-taking landscape of national importance. We should celebrate them and their efforts.”
