Partners: Woodland Trust, Forestry Commission, High Weald AONB Unit, INTERREG 2 Seas Programme.
Timescale: December 2005 to 31 March 2011.
The project partners jointly funded this national demonstration project to restore unmanaged conifer plantations on ancient woodland sites to broadleaved woodland. The project demonstrated how proactive work by a dedicated officer can engage landowners who are currently not involved in woodland management under existing grants schemes. Its success led to its evolution into the Living Woods Project and funds have been secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund by the Woodland Trust to roll out the approach nationally.
