High Weald

Introduction: A privately-owned wood, with permitted public access, deep in the centre of the High Weald

Location: 1 mile north of Broad Oak and 1.5 miles north-east of Heathfield, East Sussex.

What can I do? Wander along the grassy paths through the mixed broadleaf and coniferous woodland.

What can I see? Look out for occasional heather plants amongst the bracken and undergrowth, suggesting sandy soils and a formerly more open woodland.

What can I hear? The quick escape of deer disturbed by your presence.
