Introduction: Big Millhole Wood is a privately-owned working wood: a wonderful rainbow mix of old and new trees, conifer plantation and natural, broadleaf woodland. It is popular with local people.
Location: 0.8 miles north of Town Row and Rotherfield, East Sussex.
What can I do? Walk the many paths through the site, over bridges that cross streams winding through the woodland.
What can I see? Look out for the old railway bridge – the branch line from Crowborough down to Heathfield used to run through this site. In spring, look out for the great display of bluebells.
What can I hear? Woodland birds singing from overhead.
