Bardown farm is a child friendly and wheelchair friendly traditional working farm that dates back several hundreds of years. A wonderfully rural and beautiful location with outstanding views across the High Weald and yet still close to London. With a station in the village you can arrive by train and be collected by the owners of Bardown Farm Cottages. There are 4 beautifully appointed holiday cottages on the farm that accommodate up to 16 guests at one time and the owners welcome both groups and individuals ..
Bardown's owners met through their sheep as they were both shepherds on neighbouring farms. Bardown farm holiday cottages evolved because they wanted to share not only their beautiful countryside but also the fantastic way of life and so they converted the Sussex Barn into 3 holiday cottages. Many guests have got involved in all sorts of activities from feeding bottle lambs, helping with the pens in lambing, rounding up cows that have escaped and feeding the pigs etc.
To help guests appreciate the landscape of the High Weald Bardown has its own farm trail which takes between 40 minutes and an hour and guests are actively encouraged to use it. The trail takes you down through the woods on an ancient part sunken pathway known as Picadilly that was the route by which the iron ore was transported to the River Rother. The farm walk brings you back up through Air Field where Mick Reid, who was the largest farmer in Stonegate, used to fly his Tiger Moth plane from just after the war. The route is full of Bluebells in the spring and teeming with wildlife - you are almost guaranteed to see the Buzzards and may well also see deer and foxes. Guests are also provided with High Weald AONB information packs to encourage their understanding of the beautiful countryside we live in.
At Bardown guests are also encouraged to use the local community - shops, pubs and other facilities to benefit other local businesses. Awarded a Green Tourism Business Scheme Silver accreditation for the sustainable way in which Bardown farm cottages are run, guests are also invited to join the family in recycling and other sustainable activities.
