Why not try a unique camping experience with your friends and family in a quiet secluded flower meadow beside the river or lake? Private camping is offered for the summer months to people that want to experience "the great outdoors" by themselves and who maybe secretly want to do a little 'Ray Mearsing' about. Fresh water, a compost loo, natural shower/bathing facility, seasonal organic produce from the farm, a wheel barrow to move equipment and a BBQ are all provided.
Perhaps you would rather stay on a B&B basis and send the rest of the family off to camp in a quiet corner!
Each night there is the chance to sit around the camp fire, cook your supper and enjoy the tranquil surroundings and listen for the Nightingale and Owls while counting the shooting stars. If camp cooking all gets too much you can have a change and come and enjoy a breakfast or evening meal at the farmhouse.
There is plenty to do at Experience Sussex, with Mark who runs regular guided walks, cycle rides and tours of the local area, or Sue who runs craft courses. There is also the chance to learn coarse lake fishing and maybe even supervised wild swimming in the spring fed lake!
Positioned centrally between the hills of the South Downs, the sea, the flat Pevensey Salt Marshes, the wooded High Weald and the heathland of Ashdown Forest we have a unique contrast of landscapes. Using the bikes provided, the 'Cuckoo Trail' provides safe cycling on a disused railway track to link in with these varied landscapes and rural villages.
Over the years Mark and Sue have developed a wealth of local historical knowledge especially about the old Wealden iron industry - signs of which are still to be seen on local walks; the river which worked the local hammer forge runs through the farm's fields and the huge earth worked dam can still be seen on a walk across neighbouring fields. The owners have found Interesting glass or stone bottles in the river or 'worked' flints in nearby fields, and a 25 kilo cannon ball when digging a new veg patch! There is a fantastic variety of visiting birds, butterflies and wildlife around the farm including a kingfisher, nightingale, owls, purple hairstreak butterflies, roe deer, badgers & foxes. Bird watching from the bed has been enjoyed by many guests over the years!
