Primary schools in the High Weald area had the opportunity to participate in drama workshops that explored the story of the landscape. Bigfoot, an arts education company ran the sessions which were piloted earlier.
Each day-long event was kicked off by a whole school assembly in which pupils learnt about the history and development of the landscape - led by 'Professor T. Travel'. Individual classes were then able to get involved in Key Stage 1 or 2 drama workshops to learn more about the Romans, Tudors or the Environmental story in their part of the High Weald. Teachers involved in the pilot sessions rated delivery and quality of the experience as 'excellent' and 'useful for providing a context for geographical and historical understanding'.
The project was run as part of the High Weald Heroes primary school education programme. Teaching resources can be downloaded from the publications library.
The project was funded by the Weald Forest Ridge Landscape Partnership Scheme with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the High Weald Joint Advisory Committee.
