Another school in the Wealden area has joined the High Weald Heroes education scheme which encourages children to explore their surrounding landscape.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Crowborough, has signed up and pledged to help the children meet the five actions of the High Weald Heroes scheme: to Find Out About, Take Care Of, Be Proud Of, Explore and Enjoy their local High Weald landscape.
This brings the number of Wealden schools involved the scheme to 14, with the total number of schools across the AONB involved to 57. High Weald Heroes is an educational and interpretive programme that is run and managed by the High Weald AONB Unit to encourage young people to learn more about nature and the environment.
St Mary's school are planning on using the free High Weald Hero education resources as part of their current curriculum topics and hope to embark on a Welly Walk, to discover which High Weald landscape features are close to their school.
The High Weald Heroes scheme offers children a wide-range of 'pick and mix' activities that includes themed assemblies, workshops and field trips, allowing them to explore important features and historical evidence in their local landscape.
