High Weald

edward_victorian_gardenerA new video has been added to the High Weald video library. It tells the story of Edward, a wealthy Victorian landowner who takes you on a tour of his estate, sharing how he has developed his garden using the features of the High Weald: its gill streams with their unique microclimate; sandrock; clay soils; and hammer ponds. These features have played an important part  in building the area's great gardens such as Wakehurst Place; Nymans Garden; Borde Hill; High Beeches; and Scotney Castle. Discover how he, like many other Victorians, influenced the landscape as well as his thoughts on The Great Exhibition, steam trains and women on bicycles.
