High Weald

kent_orchardThe search to find the 2013 winners of the Kent Food, Farming & Landscape Awards has begun in earnest with the launch of this award category for the second consecutive year. The award is one of 14 Taste of Kent Awards which are promoted by Produced in Kent - a membership organisation dedicated to championing local food, drink, products and services in Kent.

The popular farming award has been made possible through sponsorship from the partnerships that champion the county's two protected landscapes: the Kent Downs Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) and the High Weald JAC.  The awards also have the backing of the Kent National Farmers Union and the Kent Country Land and Business Association (CLA).

The popularity of the award was defined in its debut year by the outstanding quality of the entries. Ellie's Dairy won the Small Farm Award and Edward Barham of Hole Park Estate  won the Large Farm Award.

Edward Barham, whose estate is located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, says "I was immensely proud to win this award last year in its inaugural year. I hope that, like me, every farmer is proud of what they achieve on their land beyond the farmed acres, the majority of which goes unrecognised. Here is an opportunity for the best examples to receive public recognition of that and I wish this excellent award every success, showcasing the best of Kent."
