The next time you plan a visit to Bodiam Castle, one of the High Weald's top attractions, why not include a boat ride along the Rother and arrive in style. Boats have been travelling to the Castle up the river for centuries and Bodiam Boating allows you to follow in their footsteps.
Alex, Vanessa, Izzy and Billy took over Bodiam Boating earlier in the year and alongside the camping field and cafe they are renting rowing boats and running the Dannie Lee the 4.5 miles up the river to Bodiam Castle.
Running through the summer until the end of September, this 45 minute cruise along the river is a peaceful and slow alternative to the more usual way of arrival at Bodiam Castle by car.
This stretch of the River Rother runs through quiet countryside with high banks teeming with wildlife - birds such as kingfishers and herons; dragonflies and butterflies; and plants such as purple loosestrife and waterlilies. This gives enthusiastic photographers plenty to keep themselves occupied including a more unusual view of Bodiam Castle as you near it along the river.
Why not combine your cruise and visit to the Castle with lunch or a cream tea in the delightful tea garden at Bodiam Boating.
This is a business in its infancy and Alex and Vanessa have big plans to develop facilities for campers and the cafe and to produce meat, veg and eggs for their visitors.
