High Weald

L4Loutstanding week Banner2017

Outstanding Week is the AONB Family’s week-long programme of events to help people enjoy and be inspired by the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).

This year it takes place from Saturday 16th – Sunday 24th September, and a broad range of activities for all ages will be place across the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You could enjoy a guided walk around Rye Harbour with Sussex Wildlife Trust, help maintain precious heathland at a Kent High Weald Partnership volunteer event, or immerse yourself in rural life at the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match. Why not join an art workshop inspired by the landscape and gardens at Nymans or commune with the HighWeald’s ancient woodlands and take an outdoor yoga class at Hargate Forest with the Woodland Trust?

AONBs are some of the most beautiful, cherished and outstanding landscapes in Britain. They are vibrant landscapes which offer a wealth of opportunities for everyone to enjoy them.

Outstanding Week is an opportunity for you to get involved and get out into the outstanding countryside on your doorstep. The High Weald is a fascinating medieval landscape of wooded, rolling hills studded with sandstone outcrops; small, irregular-shaped fields; picturesque villages; scattered farmsteads and ancient routeways. With an extensive public rights of way network to explore, world-class visitor attractions and an abundance of wildlife, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
